Kushitai Gr
Type Locality and Naming
Western Tianshan. The Kushitai Gr was named by Tan Hongbing et al. in 1978 and formally published by Xinjiang Compiling Gr for Regional Stratigraphic Scale in 1981. The typical section is situated in Kushitai Valley (north slope of Xiaohalajun Mountain) in upper reaches of Koksu River, Tekes County, and the key reference section is located at the east bank of the upper reaches of Koksu River, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Lithology and Thickness
The Kushitai Gr is dominated by low-grade metamorphic clastic rock and stromatolite-bearing dolomite and limestone. Lowermost part is commonly intercalated with basal conglomerate and coarse-grained clastic rock. Middle to Upper part consists of limestone and pelitic limestone, bearing reefs of stromatolites, or unstable beds of limestone with oolitic or edgewise structures. It has a thickness of 611 to 952 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests disconformably on the underlying Koksu Gr of the Jixianian (early Mesoproterozoic)
Upper contact
It is unconformably overlain by the Shuiquan Fm of Sinian
Regional extent
Western Tianshan. The Kushitai Gr is mainly exposed in the west of Tekes and Zhaosu counties, north slope of Haleiktao Mountain, and valley of Koksu River.

Stromatolites found from this formation include Gymunosolen ramsayi, Tekesia tienshanensis, Tungussia f., (?) Linnella f., Baicalia f., Clavaphyton f., Inzeria f., Colonnella f., Paracolonnella f., (?) Minjaria f. etc.
